Brands, Logos, Slogans
A brand is a thing or service publicly distinguished from other products.
A logo is a visual mark or representation of a company that is easily identifiable.
A slogan is a short and striking or memorable phrase used in advertising.
I like the Firefox logo for around the same reasons, with it being really detailed and nice to look at with its striking colors and fox huddling the earth.
I also like the Dreamcast logo because of its simplicity to illude to dreams and their weirdness with just a squiggle.
I think the Pepsi logo may have been the most successful one since it just elicits that cool edge, showing how much better they are than Coca-Cola.
I don't like these logo designs as they take away from either what they were supposed to represent or just make it look worse as a result.
They got rid of the fox in the Firefox logo so it isn't even recognizable and the Pringles logo got rid of his hair and made him visually boring to look at compared to his previous design.
What makes a Good Logo
- good visual clarity.
- Contrasting colours, good tonal contrast.
- Simple but interesting design to attract the viewer.
- Bold shapes to make it recognizable and visible from far away.
- Avoid clip art.
- fussy design.
- Similar colours, no tonal contrast.
- Use clip art.
- messy design, too much going on
- no 1 in a particular shape to make it recognizable

Where was it filmed?
How much paint was used?
How many ‘bottle bombs’ were made?
How much steel pipe?
How many ‘mortars’?
How many kilometers of copper wire?
How many detonators?
How long did the planning take?
What were the ‘parameters’, the deadlines, and what could have gone wrong?
How many camera angles and positions were used?

Conducting Primary and Secondary Research
Primary research - involves gathering data that has not been collected before.
Secondary research - involves gathering data that was collected by someone else.
Primary Research: What methods could you use for gathering relevant information?
You could do interviews, surveys, observations, or any type of research that you go out and collect yourself.
Difference between quantitative and qualitative research.
Quantitative research deals with numbers and statistics, while qualitative research deals with words and meanings.
Secondary Research: Examples of what you could use as sources. Why do you need to reference?
What you could use for secondary research is
- textbooks.
- News articles.
- University-published studies.
- Encyclopaedias.
- Published market research.
- Academic journals.
- Etc.
It's important to reference secondary research to avoid plagiarism, acknowledge original authors, and build on existing knowledge.
What is a tagline in terms of research? What is the difference between a tagline and a slogan? What makes a great tagline?
A tagline in research is a short phrase that helps communicate the essence of a product.
Taglines are more permanent representations of your brand, while slogans can be changed frequently and are often particular to specific campaigns.
A great tagline is short, memorable, and conveys a single idea or benefit in a way that's relevant to your audience.

Lemsip talking heads ad - footage review
I have reviewed the footage of the ad I and my group have made.
The 3 advertising structures:
Narrative
This features a story that goes on during the ad, and one or more people using the product in the ad.
Some of these types of ads can be realistic but can also be non-realistic.
Talking heads
At least one person talks directly to the viewer but often it will have multiple people talking about an issue or something that they wanted and how using the product/service helps.
They show a demonstration of the product or service, they show you how to use it, and sometimes they use catchphrases to hook the viewer.
Documentary
It shows real-world events or an acted-out version of events, which is similar to narrative and Is often used to spread awareness of issues that affect the real world rather than sell a product.
The advert we were tasked to shoot was a talking heads advert using a ready-made script and a box of medicine. I felt very unenthusiastic about doing this task, but I did it in the end.
This is the storyboard that I made for the advert.
On my storyboard, I planned out the shot sizes and who was going to be in the ad at different sections in It. It was very difficult planning with my team as they did not want to take part in the task, but after some convincing, I got them on board.
I think the footage came out okay and I like the shots with Arshid and Simon the most.
The easiest shot to do was the long shot with Arshid as I could have the camera far back and not too close to their face.
The biggest issue when filming was figuring out how to have the script in front of them without it in the frame of the camera.
Another issue was figuring out who would say what so instead they all just read the script in full so at the end I could pick and choose which part of each of the footage I wanted in.
In the style of an old 80-90's toy ad. (CRT overlay and slightly compressed audio)
Talks about what it does and how it can help your child. (educational, fun, supportive)
Talks about how they were made and engineered with high-quality tech.
Says to go to your nearest toy shop and pick one up now before they're gone. (FOMO)
Catchphrase and logo at the end.
(catchphrase: Give your child a joyful box of Fun)
Rotoscope Experiemnt
The main tools I used in the software were the brush and bucket tools.
When I look at the final outcome, I think that it turned over very well and I like how the box shines
The part that I had difficulty with was trying to stay consistent with my linework over the box
The part of the process that I found most interesting was drawing over the object to create a shine over a box like it was a cartoon.
When I think of the brand advert I will make, I think that I may use this skill over things to create a unique style.
Logo
I believe my logo is suitable for my target audience and suits my product well with its bright colours and sharp design. The target audience I was going for were primary between kids and teens, the use of bright colours are a nice way of catching a child's eye.
I used Adobe Illustrator to create this logo and found it struggling at first to create this logo, but soon I had adjusted to its features and got into a sense of flow while creating it, I primarily used the pen and shape tool to create it, filling it with colour when necessary, along with the the text tool.
I had experimented with incorporating my product into the logo, making the 'O' of 'Noah's' the head of it.
The 'O' in my logo is seen on the left:
I feel like I need to develop my skills with the pen tool further so I can better use it to create better and more precise shapes on my first go round so I do not have to correct anything afterwards, saving time to do more.
If I had more time, I would have tried to use a different font for the logo or make it look more coherent so you could make out the name of it better as I have learned, from showing other people, that it is a tad struggling to decipher what it says.
And personally, I dislike the look of the letter 'A' in the logo as I feel like it feels a bit too thin and 'arrow like'.
The 'A' is seen on the left:
I had problems trying to figure out how to incorporate my product into the logo, However with the assistance of a teacher I managed to get looking how I wanted it to be. Overall, I am very pleased with how this logo looks and if given another chance, I would love to improve in some areas I hadn't previously.
My product logo is seen on the left alongside my brand logo which I had created using the same software.

Final Evaluation
Digital Packaging design
For research purposes, I looked at many sources such as old 90's toy boxes and other types of packaging before sitting on the packaging look I had found most suitable for my product.
I believe my packaging is most suitable for consumers using a simple cardboard box with a thin plastic window so you can see the toy inside.
It should be sustainable enough so it doesn't get damaged, and being as it is made of carboard, a bio-degradable material, It is very eco-friendly being easily recyclable.
I used Photoshop to create this package design along with an image I had found on google to warp my brand logo and product logo onto. I used the clone tool to cover up the existing logos that were were found on the original packaging, and used the free transform to warp my images onto it.
I feel I need to improve the way I warp images onto other images to make them feel more realistic in the way they are positioned which requires me to experiment with the free transform tool and possibly other tools to achieve this.
If I had acquired more time I possibly could have been able to more effectively use the Transform Tool tool to warp the text onto the packaging, However I had done the best I could at the current time and am satisfied which how it came out looking.
My packaging shown on the left:
Video advert
I used Adobe Animate To create this video advert, I also used a HUION drawing tablet to draw the characters, I used many tools in the software I was using, some being the brush tool and the move tool, I also used filters to create a subtle drop shadow on the text near the end of the ad
If I had more time I would have improved the look of the ad and draw more frames and made the artwork look a lot better as I used stick figures and a PNG of a couch to save time.
I also would have used a different script as the script and audio I used for this ad came from my radio ad, I had re purpose it due to my deadline for this project being near. If i had more time I would have recorded new lines to fit better with the vision I had in mind for it.
I believe the most successful part was my ability to find ways to save time, such as using a PNG of a realistic couch for the characters to sit on, I find the inclusion humorous and I enjoy it
I did run into issues trying to export my ad, however I figured it out in the end and managed to upload it to YouTube so I could link it to my blogger. Overall I am satisfied with how my ad has come out and if given more time, I would love to improve upon it.
